 Ian Redshaw |
Ian has lived and worked in Wairoa for all his life. He has a great knowledge and appreciation of this small and unique community.
Ian began employment in 1962 at De Luxe Ford as Office Clerk and moved up the ranks to his present position of Managing Director and proprietor. He was a Director of Wairoa Power Ltd, before the company was wound up as a result of changes to Government legislation and Power Company ownership.
He was National President of the Motor Vehicle Dealer's Institure and Motor Vehicle Dealers' Fidelity Fund, served two terms as Chairman of the NZ Ford Dealer Council and is currently a Hawkes Bay DHB Advisory Committee member and a past President of the Wairoa Rotary Club.
Ian is well aware of the health issues that pervade this district including the health disparities between Maori and non Maori. He has a keen interest in addressing these issues and his aim is to see positive changes towards the improvement of health of all our Wairoa residents.

 Ron Janes |
Ron was born in St. John's, Newfoundland and grew up in Montreal, Quebec. He obtained a Bachelors of Science degree from Acadia University in 1979 and graduated from Dalhousie University Medical School, Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1983. He then completed Family Medicine training at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Ron emigrated to Wairoa in 1991 with his wife, Sue and they have a 13 year old daughter, Megan.
Ron has been active in general practice teaching and research, as well as serving on the Council of the Royal NZ College of GP's and the board of NZ Rural GP Network. From 2002 until 2005 he was Associate Professor of Rural Health - a joint position between the Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care, Auckland University and the Institute of Rural Health in Hamilton.
Ron was involved with the establishment of the Wairoa PHO and has been a Board Trustee since it was started in 2002. |
 Caleb Matai |
Caleb is of Ngati Rakaipaaka, Rongomaiwahine, Te Aitanga A Hauiti and Te Aitanga A Mahaki descent.
He returned to Wairoa six years ago after spending nearly 30 years working outside the district mostly employed in media and public realtions.
He currently holds a coordination position with Kahungunu Executive's Mental Health team. He is committed to ensuring that individuals, families and whanau receive timely, high quality and effective health services that improve the wellbeing and whanau ora.
He is also dedicated to addressing the inequalities that exist between Maori health and non Maori health. |
 Charles Lambert |
Charles has a very strong and caring interest in the welfare of Maori and Pakeha in Wairoa and outlying districts. He is a trustee of the Whaakirangi marae and has been instrumental in revitalising the cultural history and whakapapa knowledge of the hapu of Ngati Matangirau.
In 1997 Charles retired from the NZ Army after serving 24 years in the RNZ Corps of Signals. Following this time he worked briefly at AFFCO and for two years as a Court Clerk/Deputy Registrar with the Wairoa District Court.
More recently Charles is involved with Hawkes Bay Regional Council Maori Committee, Treaty of Waitangi claims and Ngati Kahungunu (Wairoa Taiwhenua), he is currently the chairman of Ngati Pahauwera Hauora and has a very good understanding of health issues within the Wairoa district.

 Frances Grover |
Frances has been involved with the staff and management of most of the health and social services providers in Wairoa including the pharmacies the Hauora, Kaungunu Executive, the GP practices, Manaaki House and Sport Hawkes Bay. Most of this involvement has been about coordinating their services with Queen Street Practice so that the patients/clients receive effective, timely care.
Presently Frances is a Director of Queen Street Practice and has a good understanding of the primary health strategy especially where it fits in with the health of the Wairoa community. She has an awareness of the Maori health issues especially the disparity in pathology between Maori and non Maori.
Frances has an enthusiasm for healthy lifestyles and physical activity she is instrumental in providing support and encouragement for Wairoa residents who suffer from disabilities and chronic disease. Through Queen Street Practice Frances has implemented a healthy lifestyle programme with the purpose of assisting patients to have knowledge and make informed choices on improving their own health. The results have shown some positive outcomes.

 Gordon McIntyre |
I have lived in Wairoa for most of my life having moved here from Whanganui as a small child. I qualified as an Electrical Serviceman and Radio Technician and served in the Army on active service in Korea. On returning to New Zealand I worked in the electrical field eventually forming Gordon McIntyre Retravision. I was instrumental in bringing television to Hawkes Bay and Wairoa. I have served on various committees through the years and am currently a Trustee for the Wairoa Community Development Trust and a Board member for the Wairoa PHO.
I have been married to Diane for 28 years and have five adult children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. I am now retired and living at Taylors Bay, Mahia Beach. |
 Teresa Titi-Tehei Smith |
Teresa has been living in the Ruakituri Valley for over 34 years. It is a quiet, rural settlement situated 52 kms north of Wairoa. She has been active in her community and involved in numerous organisations such as the Ruakituri School, Erepeti marae, Ruakituri Residents Association and various sporting codes within the valley.
Teresa currently serves as trustee on the Wairoa Waikaremoana Maori Trust Board, Kahungunu Executive Ki Te Wairoa Charitable Trust and she has been a member on the Wairoa District Council Maori Standing Committee.
Teresa belongs to Ngati Kahungunu, Ngai Tuhoe and Ngai Te Rangi Iwi. She recognises the need to address issues of poor health within our community especially for Maori and she would like to see improvements in access to health services for our more needy rural residents.

 Karen Burger |
As a Financial Controller for Quality Roading and Services (Wairoa) Limited, Karen brings not only finance experience but administration and governance knowledge to the PHO.
Karen is currently studying towards an MBA which will be completed in 2010. The skills this training is giving her will be another asset to the PHO. Karen has two children aged 13 and 8 and has lived in the Wairoa area for nine years. She has a keen interest in the wellbeing of all people in the Wairoa area has the commitment and drive to facilitate the improvement of the health for the people of Wairoa.

 Victoria Smith |
Victoria's work with the Tertiary Education Commission enables her to bring a broad range of skills to the Wairoa PHO board, particularly in areas of contract management and negotiation.
Victoria's family has been part of the Wairoa community for four generations.
After graduating from Otago University she returned to Wairoa and taught at Wairoa College for several years and also at Wairoa Intermediate. She has links to both the rural and urban communtiies in Wairoa and with the Te Reinga Ngati Hine Hika and Waikaremoana Hapu. Victoria's two sons schooled at North Clyde School and Ruakituri. Both are very active in outdoor sports and this has prompted a strong interest in healthy lifestyles, particularly for young Maori. |
